John McClelland, author of the Review of Public Procurement
in Scotland, has endorsed one of the categories in the 2008 Government
Opportunities (GO) magazine Awards Scotland.
The GO/McClelland Collaborative Procurement Award,
which recognises the achievements of public sector organisations
working together to deliver more effective and better value
services, is being supported by Mr McClelland, who underlined
the essential role that collaboration can play in procurement
in his 2006 Review.
Mr McClelland said: "I am delighted
to endorse the GO/McClelland
Collaborative Procurement Award. My Review of Public Procurement
in Scotland highlighted collaboration as an important factor
in improving the efficiency of public procurement, and I
believe this Award will stimulate further development in
this area by highlighting the best examples of it."
Grahame Steed, Managing Editor of GO magazine,
said: “It says a great deal that someone of John McClelland’s
stature is pleased to associate himself with this Award.
We are pleased to have his support, and hope that this will
encourage organisations which have been successful in collaborative
ventures to enter the Awards.”
The GO Awards Scotland, organised by BiP Solutions
Ltd, are the first awards dedicated to public procurement
in the region. They build upon the success of the national GO Awards,
which are recognised as the UK’s leading public procurement
awards. Eight categories are available for entrants, including
Best Service, Sustainability, Individual Excellence, Team
Excellence and the Healthcare Supplier Award. Entries are
sought from public and private sector organisations based
in Scotland, or supplying the Scottish public sector.
The judging panel for the GO Awards Scotland includes
many of Scotland’s most prominent procurement professionals
and business leaders, including Nick Bowd, Director of the
Scottish Procurement Directorate; Iain McMillan, Director
of CBI Scotland; Dr Lesley Sawers, CEO of the Scottish Council
for Development and Industry, Brian Baverstock, Chief Executive
of Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges and
Jim Miller, Strategic Sourcing Director for NHS Scotland.
Mr McClelland is also a judge, as is Duncan Eaton, former
Chief Executive of NHS PASA and member of the judging panel
for the national GO Awards.
The GO Awards Scotland are being held in conjunction
with Procurex, Scotland’s first dedicated private and
public sector procurement exhibition. Procurex is being held
at the SECC in Glasgow on 29 and 30 October 2008. The deadline
for entries into the GO Awards Scotland is 25 August.
